splashed Glaze Jar with
Two Handles
Chun ware
Yuan dynasty
(A.D. 1279-1368)
Height: 11.7cm
Depth: 11.0cm
Mouth diameter: 10.7cm
Foot rim: 6.7cm
Girth: 47.2cm
Chun ware was famous
in traditional China for
its unpredictable glaze-
color transformations
during firing. This type
of round jar was already
somewhat old-fashioned at
the time it was made; the
main focus of Chinese
porcelain-making had
already shifted to the
Chingtechen kilns by
the Yuan dynasty. For
this reason, Yuan period
Chun ware was generally
not up to the standards
of previous periods in
terms of glaze colors
and vessel decor.
